Can you find out the make and model of your computer, it seems to be an OEM board, so could have been altered, in Everest look under Computer > Summary does it show a make and model also under motherboard what does it say for the chipset. Look at the back or side of the tower does it show any serial numbers.

Hope this helps

Your computer is a HP Media Center 864n, take a look at this from HP on how to solve sound problems, it may be disabled in the BIOS, all the instructions are shown http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...dlc=en&lang=en

This is your AC'97 sound driver from HP, it is a different version than the one from Realtekhttp://h10061.www1.hp.com/ccsearch/search?pname=HP+Media+Center+864n+Desktop+PC&opnam e=HP+Media+Center+864n+Desktop+PC&qry=audio+driver &submit.x=4&submit.y=2&method=prodFinder&ctry=uk&l ang=en&dlc=en&sni=306499&search=0

Hope this helps

We need to check what kind of sound you have, look here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...cname=bph07154
go down to Change the on-board sound settings in the BIOS

are you sound plugs a) next to the usb ports or b) set away from other ports

can you check these for me Go to Start > Control Panel > double click Sound and Audio devices > look under the Volume tab, in Sound Playback and Sound Recording what is the Default Device . on the Voice tab what is shown under Voice Playback and Voice recording > on the Hardware tab does it show an AC'97 Audio- if not what does it say for an Audio Device > click the Audio Device, what does it say under Device Properties.

Hope this helps

It's an Intel D845GEBV2 which Intel say they no longer support, your drivers are here, download 5+7 and save both to a file on your computer ( where you can find them ) name the file MoBo Drivers, then install 5. Audio AC'97 and see if that works, if it does'nt you will need to install 7 first it's the chipset driver then the audio driver again.
Create a System Restore point before each install just in case http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...5&submit=Go%21

Hipe this helps

Hi,

did a search on the forum... I have the same problem. Did a clean reinstall of XP Home, and I find that I have no sound. There's a white flag on the Multimedia Audio Controller in the Device Manager, there are no drivers installed. It won't find the drivers and I have no disks.

I installed Berlarc as suggested earlier in the thread, these are my data:

Operating System
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)

Processor a
2,53 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache

HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8480B [CD-ROM drive]
SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616Q [CD-ROM drive]
3.5" format removeable media [Floppy drive]

ST3120022A [Hard drive] (120,03 GB) -- drive 0, s/n 5JT61PYY, rev 8.01, SMART Status: Healthy

Main Circuit Board b
Board: P4V88+ 1.0
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. P1.20 04/18/2005

Angry Hey, me too!

hi, I seem to be having the same problems as everyone else on this thread!
I ran the belarc program and it wasn't helpful either.
I have a MESH D410E Notebook computer and also have Windows XP Pro. If you can help at all I'll be Eternally grateful as this problem is driving me completely insane!
(It also says that PCI Modem and Video COntroller (vga compatible) are missing - are these important too i.e. could they be need for playing music
and dvds?!! Sorry, I am useless with computers!!
Thanks
