Generic Host Process for WIN32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I have had this particular error on this pc and have reinstalled the OS on 3 separate occasions. I also loose my ability to play mp3 files (Bad DirectSound Driver Error Code 88780078) however *.wav files still work i.e. I hear the windows theme play on boot. When I reinstall my sound drivers my sound comes back until I reboot.

In the details of the error report I have this information:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: entapi.dll
ModVer: 8.0.0.240 Offset: 0000368a

Or:

szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.2180 szModName : EntAPI.dll
szModVer : 8.0.0.240 offset : 0000368a

I have WinXP Pro
I have checked out MS KB and the only referece I can dig up is regarding HP printers but the ModName dll listed is not the one showing in my system. I do have an HP printer though. Other sites say that this caused by a worm but a
McAfee and PC-Cillin Scan both say I am clean. I have cleaned out any mal-ware that is on the system and have not found the msblaster.exe file in my win32 folder.

Any help would be appreciated...Thanks
PC specs:
AMD 64 3500
ASUS A8V Deluxe Mother Board
1 gig Ram
ATI X800 Pro 256mb
WinXP Pro
HP psc 1315

Thanks for the quick response. I have recently updated my BIOS as of 5 hours ago. Still no dice. I have not installed any new ram since I build the system 12 months ago. Is there a way to test and see if the ram is bad?

Just as a side note, what indicates that it is a ram/bio issue?

Wow, ok after months of putting up with this I think I've found the solution...or at least a work around for me.

After updating my BIOS and performing a memory test with no luck. I decided to focus on the offending dll file (entapi.dll). I renamed the file entapi.dll.old to take the dll out of play and it WORKED! No more error even after reboot. My sound devices are working properly! So far so good. I'll keep the thread updated.

Generic Service Host Process has encountered a problem

Same problem here.
I'd get this error, send error report and then IE7 would not work.
Also noticed sound stopped working (sounds played through my sound card not the system speaker e.g., windows media player files.) I could switch user and the other user would be able to use the internet WITHOUT IE7 saying it had a problem and had to shut down.

Tried a bunch of other changes and then stumbled on this thread about entapi.dll.

I renamed entapi.dll to entapi.dll.old and everything is back to normal!!!

Thanks!
