Backing Up XP

Good afternoon! Hoping someone can help me with a small problem I have here. I am trying to do a backup on my computer at work, and since there is no way I can back up all the info on a floppy, I am trying to write it to a CD, but my computer will not allow me to switch to the D drive where the CD is... it keeps talling me that the path is incorrect. Any way I can get the backup tool to recognize the D drive to do my backups. I do have administrative capabilities on my computer, which is on a partial network with one other computer. The only thing both computers share is our Quickbooks program.

Any ideas?

TIA for any help.

First, are you sure the drive is a CD writer and not just a CD reader?

Second, are you using CD-R or CD-RW disks? CD-RW disks have to be formatted first.

Ah ha! My disks are RW, but there's absolutely NOTHING about them needing to be formatted on the box or on the insert inside the jewl case. Unfortunately, I don't have a clue as to how to format them. When I burn to them using Nero Burn, I just put them in the drive and burn the data to them, so I was unaware that they wuld need formatting. Any advice on formatting?

Thanks for your reply, by the way.

Hello, moneypenney.

You problem is that you have old backup software that doesn't support burning backup file on CD. Also I guess it takes you very long time to create the backup as new bakup software allows you to complete all operations in 15-20 min.
Well, for creating the perfect backup I'd sugget you to use hard drive backup software like Acronis True Image. I use it, so I must say it's the easiest software I've ever seen, it has intuitive windows wizard utilization is very convenient. All you need is click "create bootable rescue media" or first create image and then burn it on CD (due to high level compression, it takes not much space).
Truly fast and foolproof.

Be aware!
