No drives in look in box

Hi posted before but no replies,any new Ideas? All throughout Windows any progam that offers file/ open in the Lookin box and am only offered MY Documents, Desktop, My recent docs. But no drives to locate a file etc. Even Start/Run box Browse/lookin shows no drives. This has always worked in the past, and even with a repair install still No Go. After looking deeper into the problem I have found another clue to the disappearing drives and that is that in c:\windows there are 2 explorers click on the explorer with no extension it shows a two pane window as per norm with c:\ as the root with all drives shown. BUT when you click on explorer.exe Guess what I am given a window with, Desktop , My documents , recycle bin. with the root My documents. No drives. Any Ideas ?
