assigning hard disk letter
I have an external hard disk mounted on my pc for more than a year, I use it as a second hd, never dismounted. It had the E: letter, C: being my main hd, A: the flop drive, D: the cd-rom drive.
I configured several programs to download and upload to it.
Then... I dismounted it, and while it was disconnected, I connected an iPod, which received the E: designation. Then mounted the external hd, and it received the F: designation. Needless to say, all programs lost track of files and links.
So I unplugged both iPod and hd, and tried reconnecting hd in different usb ports, and guess what? its name continues to be F:, even thought there is no E: connected at all. I thought windows would assign the first available letter designation to any newly mounted external storage volume, but the hd is stuck with F:
How do I reassign it to E:?
Btw, I cannot reassign the programs to the new "F" driver, which would be simple enough, because they crash! ha-ha-ha.
What I think might be ocurring is iTunes assigned E: to iPod, whether is connected or not, and now any newly mounted volume is assigned to F:
But how can I changed that, if indeed I can?
ps. Windows Xp Pro Edition, Pc 2.3mhz, 256 ram, and the external hd is an acomdata 150gb usb 2.0
