I have had this issue before myself....not often at all, but on occasion windows doesnt detect the cd in the drive. I dont know what causes it, I just didnt want you to feel all alone.

Without saying anything of acusation..........what i have seen in the past is this.

A copied cd will install, but not be seen to play due to the security of writing to sub channels. If its a "copy" it most likely was written with a writer that didn't do sub channels.

IF its an original, then the "lag" time of the unit is the issue. You may want to see if the MFGR has a firmware update that may solve that issue.

Good Luck!!!

I routinely run my wife's cd cleaner from her car in both of my drives. all it is, is a cd with 2 little brushes. they should really call it a cd lens duster. this may not be your problem, but for $2.50 you can't go wrong. this is good practice for all cd drives.

he's referring to the manufacturer of your drive. most optical drives have upgradable "firmware" that you can download from the maker of the drive. sometimes, though, the trick is finding the maker! but the info is probably in the device manager, in the properties of the drive. you will need the manufacturer and the model#. but read the instructions on the manufacturer's website carefully, because there are serious risks to the drive if the upgrade fails.

i searched for your drive in google, and found too many hits that referred to your problem, or something very similar. perhaps there is a problem with your drive.
