Windows ME to XP PRO

I just got a xp pro cd from a friend,
1. I am running millenium right now, can I upgrade to this, and how hard is it going to be, I already copied a cd of all my important programs.
2. Is it possible to do this I have a HP pavilion xt853
Any and all help would be really appreciated.
3. If so, is xp going to uninstall millenium it self. or am I going to have to do something

You have 3 choices. You can keep ME and install XP and have a dual-boot scenario. You can upgrade ME to XP. You can do a clean install of XP. The best way to go is do a clean install. Look at these links for more info.

I would not upgrade from me to xp. When you boot to the XP install CD, have it format your drive and do a clean install. It will be WAY more stable.

Also, keep in mind you have to ACTIVATE XP, and if you're friend already did so on his machine, M$ is not going to be happy when you call and try to explain it.
