Real Player Hijack!!!!

I use WMP10. It works for me. I had some files that needed Real Player so I updated the Realplayer. Initially, (even though I unticked making it my default player), the lying useless thing set Real as the default player. I messed around and seem to have WMP as the default again, but at least half of the files I have...quite a few mpegs, now automatically play in Real. I don't like Real that much. I only want files to play in Real if I tell it. HOW DO I GET MYSELF OUT OF THIS REALPLAYER HIJACK??

XPSP2 1GB RAM 3Ghz Intel

I use WMP too and the same happened to me.
The files that played in Realplayer were m4A so what I did was this;
Open windows explorer[via start/programs/accessories] click on tools at the top, then folder options. In the file types tab, scroll down to m4A and highlight it and hit the change button and choose the program you want it to open with[in this case, WMP] Then check the box for always use this etc etc. The same can be done with some other different file types and different programs.

Go to control panel
add/remove programs
bottom left button reads set program access and defaults. Click that
Click the down arrow on custom and choose windows media player as your default player for media.
Or if you just want windows default for pretty much everything like IE / outlook / WMP / etc just select the windows default.
click ok
done!

Unfortunately windows media player will not play some file types by default unless you tell it to.

Many thanks

Thank you very much for your help F A B Scott & Domin8tor. I followed the prompts and got out of strife. I observe that Real still wanted to stop me by careful software manipulation. Many thanks!
