xp phoning home?

I heard a rumor that SP1 of windows XP corporate edition adds a "feature" which "phones home" to microsoft when connecting to the internet, sending the machines activation info & IP address, implemented for tracking illegal copies I presume.

Does anybody have a confirmation as to whether that is true?

If you have a pirated xp corporate and are able to somehow get sp1 on it prepare for your windows to be disabled. And no....no phone home until you click the Automatic updates button...then phone home..then you wont even be able to install sp1.

What if one was using said questionable version and BEFORE install had slipstreramed in SP1?

What if one was using a legal VLK version and slipstreamed SP1 before install?

Would XP on it's own "phone home" AND send license information?

It was my understanding from the privacy advocates that XP at no time sent personally identifying information during normal operation or during (automatic) updates.

Are you alledging they're wrong? (sounds like a news story). What proof do you have? (other than your opinion)

thnx

Does anyone think that Bill Gates might be the antichrist?

If indeed something of this nature is going on, it wouldn't be an issue if we all adhered to the most basic rule of "not" pirating software........then.........no worries.

Fact.........none of what has been said is true!!

I have personal knowledge of a "questionable" version runing, and was able to gain SP1 due to a crack method, and is still runing updates as we speak.

What you may be refering to is that XP has a feature that attemts to log in and see if any new updates are available. Most users I know, disable it since its a pest. This can be found in the device manager.

AND........I don't think Billy is the AntiChrist!! But just another rich person trying to controll what he can.

i believe he is the antichrist, for a bieng so ugly to have the personality to get to the place he is would require having the knowledge that all will bow and beg for his mercy. oh yeah, it would also take some of that "circular logic" that my wife tries to apply all too frequently!
