Creating a home network shouldn't this hard !! Help please.
Just got myself a nice new machine to act as a server on my home network. Ran the "Set up home network" on XP Media Center edition and it seems to have done the trick - the computer pops up under "My Network Places" as do the directory's I have opted to share on the network.
Problems begin with my existing PC, which is running XP home. Run exactly the same set up and use the same network naming convention. Seems to run okay, but then when I go into Explorer and click on "My Network Places, get to "Entire Network", then click on "Microsoft Windows Network" and the network appears. However, if I click on the network (in this case "Home"), then I get the following message:
"Home is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
This is bizarre, as I have administrator rights and I don't understand what permissions are being referred to. It may be something silly. I haven't set up a home network before and wasn't expecting it to be this difficult.
My set up is 2 PC connected via a Draytek 2200 router.
Any ideas ?
Thanks.
