Long Pause/Hang just after Logging Into Windows XP

Looking for help with an annoying pause at Windows XP LogIn.
- It appears at various points of building a system for home use. The pause I am referring to is just before you see your desktop after clicking your username or entering in your user password. It hangs, but not after windows install. It forms after installing Windows updates or other typical software. Just never in the same place, or for a single clear reason.
-----------------------------------------
Supporting Argument:

I am referring to a Windows XP Pro system with all windows updates, and standard software normally installed for home use. (AnitVirus,AntiSpam,Parental Controls perhaps, & a couple games... Doesn't matter if you keep reading...)
- Top of the line hardware. (P4 3GHz or more,Corsair 1024MB DDR Cas 2-2-2-5 Extra Low Latency Memory, 2 High Performance Hitachi Hard Drive in Raid 0 for twice the loading speed, 800MH FSB Intel Chipsets from Asus, Radion 850XT PE Video Card. Anyway, just saying fast hardware. I see this pause on many systems with different hardware. (Non Raid, AMD systems, NVidia Products, Sound Blaster Products or On-Board Sound)

I have built many many systems, and I can't quite pin down what causes a long pause to develope when trying to login. Somewhere around 5-10 seconds. Seems like more sometimes, especially when your running a high end system. This long pause..., no hard drive activity, and everything runs great once it get logged in and you see your desktop. The pause I am referring to is just before you see your desktop.

Sometimes just after SP2 install, sometimes after perental control software, sometimes after antivirus install, sometimes not at all until later one day you install something, reboot, and a long pause appears when you click your username to login. It also seems that once you get this, it is very hard to get to go away if at all. Even if immediately uninstalling what you think caused it, or even going to a previous restore point.

Sorry for the book, but I know you needed info to even try and help me on this. Let me know if you have any suggestions. I consider myself to be quite advanced with windows, and don't see whats causing this. It always seems to happen just after installing "SOMETHING", then rebooting to find a hang after logging in. You can undo the install, but the hang stays

Help if you can.
