Accessing floppy drive causes XP to reboot
I've recently installed XP Pro on my computer and all was
working fine until about a week later I tried to access
the floppy drive and it blue screened on me with these
details:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Stop: 0x0000000A (0x000000B0, 0x00000002, 0x00000000,
0x804E5F81)
I used to have XP Home Edition running on my system and never had any problems with the floppy. The floppy drive is a Panasonic drive manufactured this year.
This exact message now comes up everytime I try to: send a file to the flopppy drive, open a file on the floppy drive or just try and access the floppy drive through Windows Explorer.
I have checked the drivers for the floppy disk controller and the drive itself in Device Manager and no problems are reported, it's running on IRQ 6 and XP is not sharing any other devices on that IRQ.
The problem still occurs even when I've taken out every piece of hardware in my system apart from the graphics card.
I've tried searching for new updated drivers but since a floppy drive is such a generic piece of hardware I haven't had any success.
It's not the floppy drive itself because I have replaced it with another one from my other computer with a different cable too and it still causes the error. I also don't think it's the motherboard as the drive works fine in DOS mode.
Also for some strange reason the drive works fine in Windows XP Pro in Safe Mode, but will not work when XP boots up normally. I've tried uninstalling the device and removing any presence of the floppy disk drivers (being fdc.sys and flpydisk.sys) on the system and tried installing the XP Home Edition drivers, but that hasn't solved the problem.
I still feel it is an incompatible driver problem with XP Pro, but can't find any updates for the floppy drive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
