Problem installing Windows XP Home
While trying to do a clean install of XP Home (Upgrade} on a brand new Seagate Barracuda ST380021A 80GB Hard Drive, I ran into a major problem: it formatted the drive to NTFS & installed, but when it was going to reboot, I hit enter to restart (like it said in the window). Now, it won't boot at all, I get an 'Error loading operating system' message. When I try to boot from CD, it goes through the original setup, & when it gets to the window where it shows the partition, it says 'unrecognized format' (or something to that effect). I ram chkdsk from the command prompt through repair, & it said the hard drive may be damaged. Did I screw something up, or did I get a defective hard drive? I had the system built for me at a local PC dealer, & they formatted the drive with FAT32 with no problems. It's in the shop now, but I'm wondering what went wrong.
