XP Hangs

My system is XP Pro SP1.
1800 AMD
A7V266-E KT266A Chipset
ASUS V7100 graphics card

If I select the restart option my computer will hang.

This has been a problem from the get go with this computer..it has never
restarted.

This is the error written to the system event viewer:
The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort1, did not respond within the timeout period.

My Drivers:

Device Manager\IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers\Properties\Driver\Driver Details
Primary IDE Channel \Microsoft 5.1.2600(xpsp1.02082-1920)
\atapi.sys

Secondary IDE Channel \Microsoft 5.1.2600(xpsp1.02082-1920)
\atapi.sys
\storprop.dll

VIA Bus Master IDE Controllers \Microsoft 5.1.2600(xpsp1.02082-1920))
\atapi.sys
\pciidex.sys
\viaide.sys

Any suggestions would be welcome.
Or if someone has a workaround to enable the complete installation of
Quickbooks, the program requires restart inorder to finish installing. No
other options are given.

It appears you are running an ( I didn't peak at your run down before I said that as VIA is the chip est on the AMD adapted MOBO you are using. The error is exactly what you see. XP ( has a lot of issues with VIA) has a bug in it about VIA and your IDE controller. Hence the IDE VIA driver.

I believe there is a fix for the VIA chip in Microsofts knowledge base. It is a patch. After your IDE is fine, you can install anything you want.

Hope that helps.

I change the Startup and Recovery/Time to display recovery options when needed: to 200sec

The computer now restarts..if this makes any sense.
