Recurring Error Event 2001 DCHP

Greetings! Running XP Pro, single computer with a DSL connection only. When I check the Event Viewer I always see Event ID: 2001 Error which says:

"The IP address lease 192. etc for the Network Card with network address 0005D etc has been denied by the DCHP server 192. etc (The DCHP server sent a DCHPNACK message)."

I'm not running anything wireless, nor do I have another computer. The intial startup is exceptionally slow (6-7 minutes). I'm thinking there might be a relationship?

Any suggestions for this beginner would be appreciated. Thanks.

OMG, do you mean it actually takes you that long to connect to the internet?
And you have DSL? Not supposed to be that slow...even dialup is not usually that slow. I would most definitely call the ISP (your server). Your Error in the event viewer is definitely a server Error.

No. The 6-7 mins is how long it takes for the computer to initially bootup from scratch. No delay gettting to the internet. Thanks.

After checking the MS link in Event Properties, I find that no action is required, so I assume that means there is no impact and a user can "live with it."

An excerpt from that link follows:

"...No user action is required. The DHCP Client service will continue trying to obtain a working IP address until it succeeds, and DHCP establishes the network connection on its own..."

I consider this issue closed. Thanks to all.
