How do you network two computers for file sharing?

Current set up is two machines (desktop, laptop) sharing a cable internet connection via a wireless router.

I want to be able to work on my desktop, but access pictures, etc on my wifes machine and vice versa hers to mine. Does someone have a thorough and simple step by step to do this??

I tried making sure both were signed up for the same network group thing. On my desktop I can hit my network places, Windows network, see the network name I chose, and see both computers listed on it. However, I cant actually access anything on her machine. Likewise from her machine, i see the same network name, but her side doesnt display either of our computer names....says its "not accessible". What am I doing wrong? Feels like I'm really close to getting this, but I am stumped.

Try using Set up a home or small office network wizard (Control Panel -> Network Connections).
It also helps to have the same account and password on both boxes.

Hi, if you are running SP2, you also want to be careful about the firewall you are using. If it is windows firewall then it must be configured to allow file sharing:
>START
>CONTROL PANEL
>NETWORK CONNECTIONS
>CHANGE WINDOWS FIREWALL SETTINGS (on the side)
>EXCEPTIONS tab
>TICK the FILE AND PRINTER SHARING option
>Click ok
