Second Network Printer

Our home network consistes of 1 machine downstairs and 2 upstairs. I currently have one printer on the network which we all use. I have just had an old HP 840c given to me and thought it would be ideal to use as a second printer on the network rather than keep using the photoprinter.

I have connected the printer to one of the machines upstairs with a standard serial port cable, that machine can print okay. However I cannot get either of the 2 other machines (1 downstairs and the other upstairs) to see it. I can go through to add printer on my machine downsatirs and see that there is a small + sign by the side of the named machine upstairs. Whilst I can drop down to select the existing printer no problem, it will not let me expand from the second machine to select the HP

Is the 840C shared? Obviously, it has to be...

BTW, what is the other printer? Is it ON the network or is it also just a share from a PC?

Yes, you need to make sure it is shared under printer printer properties, but also check that the other PC can be accessed from the network. If you have SP2 installed then the firewall might not be configured to "allow print and file sharing". Look in your control panel if you aren't sure.
