adding an XP machine to home network

Hi there. I've just added an Acer 3600 runing a new install of XP media centre to my home network in place of an older machine that ran W2K. I've plugged the cat5 cable into the same port on my modem-hub, but I can't get out to the internet from it. My second PC (XP home) connects properly as it always has. Each have their own static IP address.
I can ping the modem (from new PC) and get a response, and I can ping the dns server of my ISP and get a response. If I ping a website, I get a timed out. I get a timed out if I ping my second PC, and get nothing if I ping from it to me new PC. I can connect to #1 from #2 and share files, but I can't connect from #2 from #1.

I've turned off the firewall on #1, and #2 is off as well.

Is this enough info for someone to make a diagnosis

cheers
ian

Did you run the built-in network wizard ? Do you have third party firewall such as Norton Internet Security ?

Cheers

Hi. Yes, I ran the wizard on the new PC, but not on the old one-which already connects properly to the first + internet. No third party stuff present
I'm wondering if there's a hidden 'setting' somewhere I've overlookd?

cheers
