Problem Formatting Xp!

Hello all,

I have successfully formatted windows xp on many occasions but have been unsuccesful on my latest attempts.

The problem is, I boot up my computer with the XP cd rom in the drive and press any key to boot from the XP cd rom as prompted. It tells me it is gathering files and the usual blue screen appears with 'Windows setup' at the top of the page.

The problem is, the usual user agreement that normally appears underneath 'Windows setup' that you agree to by pressing F8 I believe, does not appear

I have tried several things.

I am able still to operate windows, but it is overdue a reformat.

Anyone any ideas?

I have tried restoring failsafe defaults, system restore, uninstalling SP1, changing boot sequence, different XP cd etc and I have run out of ideas,

regards,

Neil

It's a long shot but have you tried a System File Check, go to Run / type "sfc /scannow"( without quotes and note space after sfc) have Win CD available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files. Amother thought a Reapair Install may work see here http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Hope this helps

Hey all, I just bulit my comp and put xp home service pack 1 on it. My disk was scratched so it lost some files formatting. Well I thought service pack 2 would clear this mess up but I thought wrong. There are several errors with xp, also my realtek wont work. Any suggestions?

Greatly Appretiated,

Miles D..

I would try to repair the disk and reinstall, some video/cd hire shops have surface repair tools that might work or alternatively you could buy a cd repair kit.

Once you have it working again, make a copy of it.

Realtek what??

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True

Check device manager for any errore, yellow ? will indicate a problem.

Hope this helps

Is this a burned copy of XP - sometimes you can have errors if the copy is "burned" at a rate that is too fast. I've had this problem in the past. Recreating the at a 2x write speed may help.
