Can't find 2gb of data on hard drive

When I check the properties on my c drive, it says that it has 5.76GB of data on it. But when I check each folder individually I can only find about 4GB of data. Does anyone know if there could be hidden files that I can't find and that don't show up at used disk space on folder properties? I know the local settings folder is always hidden, but that shows up as used disk space. I've checked it over and over and I have no idea why I can't find that extra data. I need to free up some space and I'd like to get rid of the hidden stuff if there is any. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Erik

Hi,
Im new to the forum and i have the same kind of problem as you.
i've made a backup copy of one of my dvd's so i used a program to copy it to my hard drive and then used cloneDVD to burn it to a dvd.

now it says i only have 91gb of 113gb when i can only find about 2.5gb (including hidden folders)

i have deleted the film off my hard drive and also the temp one that cloneDVD makes.

any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Do either of you have Norton SystemWorks? One of the tools is a file recovery system to undelete files, it labels the Recycle Bin as Norton Protected Recycle Bin. Anyway, data that is kept by norton is not counted by folder properties but it does contribute to the drives used space.

If you have any type of active undelete software running, the extra data may be storage for deleted files. Any program like this should have the option to purge the data and truely delete the files.

Also a lot of times your what your hardrive is (amount) may not be the same as when it displays, after hours of searching why, i have found that no its not because "oh thats the room windows takes up to install" Its actually the counting method that windows uses to count the GB, its not exactly the same, kind of like metric and imperial.
