Windows is starting up

I turn on my computer, and it loads, till it says Windows is starting up. Now, when it says Windows is starting up it freezes and stays like that for ever. I have tried running in safe mode and i have no problems. Help please

Thanx but...

thanx for an immeadiate response but the problem is i have tried repairing the computer ie installing over the top of my XP computer so i keep all my data. When i do this it is fine for the 1st time i log in but the second time, i have the same original problem! I would do a fresh install but i need confirmation that there is not other way of fixing it as it is too much hasle to fresh install it.

Hi,
I know it dosent help much, but just want to tell that I have the same problem.
I got some spy-ware (Spysheriff) that I removed. But it deletes system restore points, so that is no option.
Now I can also only start up in safe mode.

Can I somehow activate networking, efter booting in safe mode with no network ?

WinXP SP2

Can run Safe Mode, but not Safe Mode w/ Networking

Tried Norton AntiV, Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, CCleaner and also
deleted some suspicious files + a couple of entries in the
registry Run areas...

No change, although there were quite a few things that were
"fixed" by some of the above.

I am now in the process of using XP setup to repair an existing
installation. Yuck.

This all stems from a virus of adware or spyware... I had a flurry
of warnings yesterday...

Well, I used the XP setup/install CD to repair installation and it
appears to have worked! All applications and settings look to
be intact. I guess I may never know what exactly the culprit
was!!!
