XP Hanging after Norton Antivirus install

Hey there,

I really hope someone can help with this. A friend's pc had some problems so i installed Norton Antivirus 2005. After being prompted to restart to finish the install I did so and XP restarted. However on getting back into windows, XP just hung on the "Windows Installer" dialog box. I cancelled this and tried to restart but XP was hanging so I turned off the pc and restarted. Now everytime XP starts it hangs for a long time. Then if i try to do something like open "My Computer" or anything, it hangs for a long while and doesn't even open after all that time. Anyone have any ideas what this might be? Is there anyway I can sort this out by entering setup before going into windows? Could I delete norton by entering setup at the start? Or maybe safe-mode? Please help asap. Thanks very much

try to loggin in safe mode and then click on start/ run and type: msconfig

Click on Startup TAB and search for norton startup files like: ccaap.exe and unselect them, Also under Services Tab unselect the norton Services... Click on ok and restart the computer...

Just a quick amendment to below. I thought nothing was opening after clicking on something e.g. My Computer. However it just hangs for 20-30 minutes and then it opens. Do you thing maybe some process is running that is using all the CPU? Something I could terminate with task manager if I could get into it?

Don't use Norton, it is a pile of s***

Trust me, if you don't want future problems with your pc, remove norton. Get Mcafee, or Nod32 , already much better than Norton

Norton Sucks...Take it from me I had that stuff for a year and a half and it blows! it HAS TROUBLE REMOVING VIRUSES! This program is supposed to rid your computer of the sh** and it doesn't even do it's job. Try something like AVG (FREE!!!!!). I personally don't like McAfee because it uses too much processing and RAM. AVG FREE!!!
