I have been dealing with this for a while now. I have had numerous input from other people on what to do and nothing worked. I had to get a new hard drive. I still have the old one so I will watch this thread and follow your progress in the event you can fix it. It did not matter what I did I always got the same thing you are describing. Fortunately the computer was my son's and had nothing of any real loss on the HD. Good luck, by the way was the computer a DELL??

Well, I think Windows Repair would fix this problem 90%... Anyway, Installing a new fresh copy will make it sure...

Boot Problems

System Restore
1. While windows is loading (after the BIOS screen) keep your finger on F8
2. This will load you into safe mode, if it now boots click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore and restore to a time when you didn't have this problem

Windows Repair
1. Power on your system
2. Enter the Windows installation disk
3. Restart the computer
4. A message, Press any key to boot from CD... (or something like that)
5. Press any key
6. it will start copying files
7. It will then give you some options (as I can remember it's new installation, repair and cancel)
8. Choose the first option, not repair (click to install a new copy, or something like that)
9. Then agree to the EULA
You can also delete the partion if you want to start fresh
10. Then click to repair a previous windows installation, by clicking the partion and then press L.
11. Then it will delete current system files
12. Then start the proper windows installation
Note that Windows installations require restarting so it will ask to Press any key to boot from CD, just ignore this.
You will also need a valid product key to install windows which, if it's a recent system can be found on the system.

Hopefully this will solve your problem, this may not be accurate but it should be close.

If you have a floppy drive:
1. Make a Windows 98 SE bootdisk (this has CD-ROM support)
2. Place the bootdisk in the drive and the CD in its drive, then boot up
3. An option will appear asking either to start the computer with/without CD-ROM support or Help
4. Press 1 and enter
5. The system will drivers from the Floppy Drive (Assumedly A and place in a RAM Drive (usually D
6. When your allowed to type (i.e. when the text "A:\>" appears) type "D:\i386\winnt.exe" (Without quotation marks and where D: is the CD Drive letter; remember that the RAM drive is D: so all other Drives move up a letter)
The normal Windows Process shoud continue

Sorry if some of this is patronising.

Yes the same thing has happned to me many times when i install bootskin from stardock. Its something to do with your Cache and stuff in the BIOS. Its your boot.ini that is corrupted or your motherboard settings. I fixed it by booting in safe mode then repairing my boot.ini Might work for you but i think yours is worse if you didnt install stardock bootskin
