Backup = Lockup

I really need help on this one - I am trying to backup my c drive. Norton Ghost will not start due to a General Exception Error, I understand this is caused by a driver conflict and after lots of time I cannot find the problem. OK so use Windows Backup..... I choose to backup the whole of my "c" drive and make a recovery disk. It starts OK then freezes the whole computer, I have tried several times and it freezes at different positions. There is no info at all about why this happens so I am lost and cannot backup at all.....please any idea?

Thanks for the reply - It may be free but it has a capacity of 1mb I have a C drive of over 100gig I want to backup
