iTunes won't open
So, I have a Dell with Windows XP from 2002. It has a Intiel Pentium 4 processor 2.00GHz and 512 RAM.
Anyways, my computer starts up and runs fine except when I try to run iTunes. The computer acts as if it is going to open but then doesn't. I also have MusicMatch on the computer [for another user] and that doesn't open either.
I've tried uninstalling iTunes completely and the reinstalling it and had no success.
I ran Microsoft Anti-Spyware and AVG Virus scan to check for any problems [I found a few, but when fixed, it made no change]
Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions to fix my problem?

I know this sounds drastastic, but it happened to me once, you should probable reinstall Windows, that should definately work.

Ok, well, for now, I'll use it as a worst case scenario... chances are, this will be my solution.
Thanks

Actually, try this before re-installing windows:
Uninstall the Itunes prog, Run the AV program and then the Antispyware prog... once you are sure you are all clean:
Restart the Computer, click on Start/ Run and type: "sfc /scannow" without quotes...(NOTE: You need to insert your XP CD Installation in the CD drive before typing that command)...
When finishes restart the Computer and then try Re-installing The iTunes software... Hope this help

Please 'THINK', USE YOUR BRAIN, PEOPLE WILL NEVER DO THINGS FOR YOU, YOU NEED TO USE THAT GREY MATERIAL YOU HAVE RIGHT ON TOP OF YOUR SHOULDERS!!!
Get the CD borrowed from a friend of you.... You dont even need to make a copy of it... Its just using it for a little while
In adition it is about time for you to have your own CD installation SOOOOO..
if you have the money you better buy one, otherwise you can use bearshare or Lime-Wire to download an XP CD installation FREE!!!
You never know when your system is gonna need it......

Something simple that worked for me
Problem:
Installed iTunes and iPod software on my computer (Windows XP operating system). Double-clicked iTunes icon on my desktop, and also through Start menu, and nothing happened. After much angst (two days worth), finally happened on this solution:
Right-click iTunes icon
Select "Run as"
Dialogue box asks: "Which user account do you want to use to run this program?" "Current user..." and "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized user activity" are the default selections. Underneath these selections is the following note:
This option can prevent computer viruses from harming your computer or personal data, but selecting it might cause the program to function improperly.
Bingo. In other words, staying with this default option may cause the program not to function.
Deselect "Current user" option (which lists you as the current user)
Select "The following user"
Enter your exact same user information in "The following user" dialogue box (your Username and Password)
[i] Example: More than one login is set up on my computer. My login to my computer (not using real information here, obviously!, but as an example) is user:
Username: Phuong
Password: *********
I entered this in "The following user" box. Voila! Itunes opened, fully functional.
Now, synching to the iPod was another problem, (no high-speed USB 2 port, apparently, but after about 15 minutes of having my iPod hooked up to my computer, the computer recognized it, and I've just finished synching. Finally!)
Hope this can help someone else out there with a similar problem!
(By the way, every time I open iTunes, I have to "manually log in" like this -- going through the "Run as" menu. But it only takes a few seconds, so, it works for now).

Howdy, RP,
I did say this is something that works for now, and didn't intend to post it as a fix. As for a permanent fix, or why it's happening at all, I haven't yet come across a response from Apple on that.
Anyways, this works for now, and once I'm logged in, the program is fully functional, so, I'm fine with it right now. Especially since it doesn't take any longer for me to bring up the program this way than it does to log into this forum.

Check your firewall.
I had Norton Internet Security, and when I reconfigured it, Itunes worked fine.

I have the exact system with all the what-nots. I just got a new iPod for Christmas. I installed iTunes, yet I can't open it for some reason. I tried the log-in thing and change the protection, but it still won't open it.
Someone said something about reconfiguring Norton. How am I supposed to reconfigure it so iTunes work? What are the settings?

sweet! i think i got it to work. I re-booted the computer and when I logged on, a bunch of Norton Security warning boxes showed up displaying the decisions of wether to block or permit a certain connection. I just put Permit Always when i saw Trying to connect with iTunes.exe.
