Unhappy Got a new Sager laptop, tried to install XP but on reboot screen went blank

I just bought a Sager 8890. It came without an OS installed, so I took out my Windows XP Home Edition CD and formatted the drive and then it said it copied the installation files. After this, I restarted and it booted to where I should have seen the Windows screen, but instead all I got was a blank black screen that didn't go anywhere. So, I tried again and I read on another forum that I should install my RAID and harddrive drivers during the Windows installation. So, I did this and it copied the installation files and rebooted...this time the screen does not turn on at all. In the beginning, it flashed a little and then just turns off....

Has anyone had this problem or any problem close to it? I would be very grateful for any responses. I want to use my new laptop, but unfortunately I can't until I figure this out

You could try using a different OS (like Windows 98 and then install the drivers before upgrading to Windows XP). You should probable also check your BIOS, is it on the default settings? Having looked at the specification (this is actually an assumption as the Hard-Drive type is said to be varied) you won't need to install the RAID or SCSI drivers until after the installation. Anyway, how is it that you are installing Windows, it might be the method.

When I first got the laptop, it had no OS. So, I plugged it in, put the XP CD in and it formatted, then said it copied the installation files. At this point, it rebooted and instead of bringing me to windows or an installation it just brought me to a black screen.

So, I tried again. This time I pressed F6 before copying the files and installed the RAID and ATA drivers, then it said it copied the installation files and then rebooted. This time it rebooted and the screen flashed and then the screen turned off. The guy I got the laptop from had Linux and XP on it before he formatted it and sent it to me.

But the biggest problem now is, I can't even try different ways of installing XP until I can figure out how to make the screen turn back on. Could this be a hardware problem or do you think it has to do with the drivers I installed and the way I installed XP?

Take a look at this on Clean Installing Win XP, http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

Hope this helps

Yeah, I'm ready to make a clean install--but I can't do that until I can figure out how to make the screen turn back on. Otherwise I can't see what I'm doing so I can't tell when I have to hit the keys to install.

Please help someone!

I know this won't help in the long-term but you could use an external monitor.
