Was never built into any version of Windows I am aware of. It may either have come as an add-in app from your ISP, or from your MODEM software. There also may be an app out there that does this. I am betting on your modem software. Check out the disk and see if it's XP compatible, or try for an update. Also V9.2 modems, if you are connected to a V9.2 node ( not too many) allow you to do this, ie have a call come in ( call waiting on) and ask to take it. Modem will hold connection for a few minutes only.

I've never used it but I've heard of a program called Callwave that does this for you. It is probably right that this was included with your modem software.

callwave is an answering machine program. you hear the ring and then someone leaves a message and it plays on the computer speakers
