Sound problems - How to find your drivers
This forum has been inundated with "My sound doesn't work" type posts which has prompted me to post this basic "how to"
It is relatively simple to fix this problem.
1/. Determine your m/board (for onboard sound) sound card (for pci sound card) manufacturer, if you need assistance in this download and run Belarc or PC Wizard or similar pc diagnostic programme
2/. Note the Audio controller in the results
3/. Go to the manufacturer's website, look for downloads / support / drivers(varies from brand website to brand website)
4/. Locate the appropriate driver for your device
5/. Download it then install it.
It is really quite simple, I fail to see why so many people have trouble with this basic activity.
Cheers

I agree, but I think most are just to lazy to do all that work , which really isn't much , I believe they would like others to provide them a link that they can click and load

People also like to have confirmation that they are not about to botch their computers somehow; I don't believe it's pure laziness...

I'm sure there is some truth to your statement too , Though I still believe most all just to lazy , I'm some what surprise as to how many are first timer posters here in this forum site and a lot has to do with audio drivers , I don't think I have seen so many first timer with all the same problems as towards audio drivers on this forum site like there is within the other forum site but , Its cool though we are here to help when ever we can ...

just want to let ya know (esp. Bookworm :-) ) that when i replaced my harddrive, and thus lost my sound, and my original/oem HP disk/drivers didnt work, i took the alpha/numerics off my sound card, did a google-search ( Ensoniq search didnt help because its CT now, and my card is outdated ) and found this in another forum :
"stevec50February 17th, 2003, 08:51 AM / He could also switch to a sound card with built-in amplifiers if they are powerful enough to drive the speakers. Creative makes an ES1371 Ensoniq card (Audio PCI 5100) with built-in amp that puts out 20 watts per channel."
Well, after running BELARC and finding out that indeed i have a Creative/Ensoniq/Soundblaster, and retrieving the cross-reference above, i was able to download an AWESOME driver from driverguide, that actually had its own install-wizard! So, after 3 months of "hit and miss" with no sound, i am BACK IN BIZ today!! never asked, just observed~ and hey, i got it.~~
sure wish i would've found you guys sooner~
and BOOKWORM, you are a Godsend; a WEALTH of valuable information that many people PAY to obtain~!!!
even tho after 120 days i figured out much of what i needed, the BELARC confirmed my "suspicions"...
i dont like to ask for help.
people that do, get called lazy~ that i'm not. and yes, im new here, and i may STILL be around just to see whats up, ev tho i got my stuff fixed.
peace to ALL~
g'nite~

I assume, the simple reason there are so many "audio/sound" topics here is that because when you do a google search for related problems, this forum comes up either at the top or near the top.
Try googling for "sound problem in XP" or "audio missing after reinstall" etc etc and you will see.
In this way, the more that are posted here increases the likelihood of more views on google.
<ad infinitum>
edit: @patoshik.
I would suggest that you start a fresh thread for your problem - it could get missed in this thread.

That's why i'm here. i went on nvidia's site and downloaded what i believed to be the proper driver and now not only do i not have any soulnd but the resolution is 800*600 that's it. i don't have high color options any more. and i keep getting a error stating that my ethernet isn't installed and that i need to install my video controller. so no it's not that there's lazyness...some of us are out here because we're truely hosed!
