Possible add keywords to file?
Hello,
I was wondering if there is a program out there that will allow you to add keywords to certain file types like, PIC's, txt, etc on your PC. The reason would be to make it easy in locating and grouping certain file together.
Meaning, lets say I have a large amount of PICs that have the moon in them. I would add the keyword 'moon' to that PIC, so if I ever need to find a group of PICs with a moon in them I could open up this special program and search the term 'moon'.
Sorry for the detailed explanation of what I'm looking for. I was not sure how else to get the point across. Again, thanks so much for your time and looking forward to hearing back.
Sincerely,
John K

The standard Windows search function will do all that FST2005 {as long as the keyword is in the title)

Hello,
Thanks for the tip...but I was looking for something that I could enter in different keywords for the file...and if I had to enter it in the title spot then it will be too long of a file name.
Hope someone out there might be able to think of a program I could use. I really need to find this.
Thanks everyone who helped out so far.

I've not used it myself but i 'think' the google desktop will allow you to search your entire computer. You can use whatever keywords you like with google

Hello again,
Thanks everyone for trying to help me figure this out.
I will try and explain it better. I have a bunch of PIC's/WEB Template Files/Etc and I want to be able to sort them and find certain ones depending on what the project I'm doing calls for...meaning:
Lets say:
photo #1 is a sunrise with a small pond and two little kids walking
photo #2 is a sunrise with a huge lake and one adult man walking his dog
photo #3 is a sunrise with a small pond and one adult man walking
In order to find the photos I need for a newsletter I'm doing on 'How men should get more exercise's and I want to pull up photos of men or man walking.
If I was able to add certain keywords for each PIC/FILE/etc, it would be:
photo #1 sunrise,small pond,little kids
photo #2 sunrise,lake,man walking,dog
photo #3 sunrise,pond,man walking
Also alot of the files I want to add keywords are web template with an extension of .html and when you right click and goto properties, it gives you no such option to add a keyword.
It would make finding either files or pic's much easier. I'm sorry if my writing was a bit much or confusing. I had a tuff time trying to find the words to explain. Please let me know if there is a program for this or a certain way to do it. Thanks so much for your time and looking forward to hearing back soon.
PS: I know you can add the keywords to the name of the file and when you do a search, it will find it but this will give the file a very long name and I want to somehow add the keywords to the background.
Thanks again,
John K

I understand what you're asking for, and frankly, it's a very good idea. To my limited knowledge, such a program or ability does not exist, but then again, I never thought to research it.
That's one of the best XP enhancement suggestions I've ever heard. Turn that in.

You had me excited for a minute there. I thought this sounded like an excellent project for me. I was researching NTFS alternate data streams so I could start coding my new, wonderful program, when became obvious why you are finding it hard to track down programs that do what you ask. The reason is: because it's so damn simple and it's already been integrated into the shell since Windows 2000.
All you need to do, is right click a file and select 'Properties'-->'Summery' and add any words you like to the 'Keywords' field. Then, to find it again: open 'Search' -- pop that keyword into the 'A word or phrase in the file' field, click search, and bobs your uncle.

Hello again,
Why is no one reading the whole post that I'm writing???
Cache...thnks for the tip...but if you try and do what you mentioned on a file like htm or html, which is what I said is the main reason why I need this...you will notice that there is no summary tab or place for you to add a keyword...none!
I want to thnk you for trying...but it will not work or help. Hopefully someone will either think of a program that can do this or maybe someone will create a simple small app to fix this.
Searching everywhere for this,
JK
