Your model has Conexant High Definition, this is the driver from HP but not for your model, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...=228&lang=e n
you may need to install this first, it's M$ UAA http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...=228&lang=e n
Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Thanks for the quick reply bookworm...
I installed the MS UAA driver. My audio device moved from other devices category into sounds category inside the device manager but it still has a yellow exclamation point next to it...It now reads as "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus"...
I could not install the conexant driver, it gave me a "No Media Device found" error....I also tried the realtek driver, but it didnt work at all...

These drivers are tricky, this is a list of audio drivers from HP, another way is to use Device Manager to search for driver
1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select " Don't search, I will choose the driver to install and click Next
see if it gives you the Conexant driver, or list another driver
if this does not work follow the next steps
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Hello...
I am new to this so please excuse my ignorance.
I have a Shuttle desktop computer and am having problems with no audio.
I tried the troubleshooting guide; however, my computer states that there are no audio devices. I have looked through the device manager and it appears that all sound devices are working properly.
I am using Windows XP...

Need more info, make and model or Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

Solution to any c700 series laptop Windows XP driver woes, including my c706nr laptop
I bought four of these for $298.99 and I won't run Vista until after the first service pack at the very soonest (I refuse to be Microsoft's beta tester, thank you very much). I was disgusted to find that it was very difficult to locate XP drivers for this but I wasn't about to return them. So since I found the solution and it was so well written, I thought I would just include the address. The drivers and instructions I used that appear to work great I found at http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/f...04608+28353475

Had same audio problem after a Windows XP update. Solution for me was to go to Device Manager and select the audio device (Realtek AC'97 Audio in my case). Clicked on Properties and selected Roll Back Driver, then restarted my computer and good to go, sound back on.

Windows XP Sound driver for Compaq Presario 757EA needed
Hello,
I wonder if somebody could help me in locating a sound driver for this laptop. I'm working on it for somebody who purchased the laptop with a copy of Vista Home installed but decided they wanted to downgrade it to XP Pro. After doing this, the only driver i've yet to find is the audio driver. I've tried various drivers including sp20309, sp32646, sp32823, sp33867, sp34200, sp34204, sp36089 and sp36090. I've installed tried installing the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Def Audio before installing these drivers but still no luck. In device manager, it just reports a question mark. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark.

No audio device on Intel Motherboard
I am building a new rig and installed XP Pro. Installed the Intel drivers with the mobo CD for on board audio.
"No Audio Device" in the Sound section of the control panel. Drivers are "working properly" accoring to Device Manager. I uninstalled the drivers from the CD and installed newer versions from the web. I have checked the Services section of the Admin Tools. I tried the machine.inf mod trick. I made sure the BIOS is set properly. Intel website states the board uses the Realtek HD Audio ALC268-GR codec. I have installed this as well, all with no success.
XP PRO
Motherboard - Intel DQ35JO Executive Series
Intel Q35 Express Chipset
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
