I am having some similar problems. My computer recently crashed and my uncle "fixed" it and while everything else seems to work fine, I can't get any sound out of my computer...except for an obnoxious beep that I can't turn off because my computer doesn't detect an audio device so I can't mute anything...

Under the hardware tab it says everything, the codecs and drivers and all, are working properly and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling realtek high definition audio driver and it never fixes it. I've tried everything I can think of and I'm starting to get really frustrated with it.

Please help me?

Dumb thing won't let me edit the original post, so I'm just adding on to it.

My problem seems to be that whatever sound device I had no longer shows up. It's got to still be in the computer since it was there when I got it and played sound alright and I never removed any hardware...

However, when my computer crashed and I installed Windows XP pro SP3, something must've gone wrong.

All my drivers are installed, but I can't locate my sound device and worse I don't know what the device name is to help me find it...

I'm afraid I'm a complete novice when it comes to technology and haven't a clue what I'm doing really, and I'd like any help I can get.

I've read all the other tips for making sound work and I've tried them, but none of them are working for me so I already know the other things in this thread won't work...I've also tried things from other forums across the web and still nothing.

Sound is a vital part of my daily computing and I really need to get it back.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I downloaded it, saved it, double clicked it, and installed it. Then I restarted my computer...and still nothing. My computer still doesn't recognize my audio device, and I don't think the drivers are the problem or this would have fixed it right?

Any other suggestions?

My problem is, obviously, 'no audio device'.
About two weeks ago I wiped everything from the hard drive (ie deleted the partition and created a new one) only after I had done that did I realise I was missing Microsoft WorksSuite Disk 1 & 2, but I assumed I was OK as I use Open Office anyway. (I tell you this, just incase that's what the problem is!)
I only discovered a problem with the speakers when I went to watch a 'video blog' and I had no sound - the speakers are old, and I figured they had just died, so today I have purchased 'Logitech X-140' speakers, but to no avail, when I check my Control Panel it tells me 'no audio device'.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I hope Ive told you enough information, and that my post has made sense! Im annoyed because usually Im OK with fixing problems on this PC but this has really got me stumped!

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.
Kath
