This may or may not help, but what I did was open the tower unit (where the mother board is) and found out who made the sound card (in my case VIA technologies) and also got the number that was there.
Then I went to DriverGuide.com and just did a search with that info....it came up with a list of drivers that I could download.
Good luck

Any other suggestions?

Check this out, you may have to set realtek as default audio
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

This ones a bit tricky, you have a sound card Voyetra Turtle Beach Montego, Dell no lomger offer support, and Turtle Beach say go to Dell, have posted on the Dell Forum ( U/N T_D_D ) and will see what they come up with. There are drivers at DriverGuide but not surw which you need.
You can link to Dell Forum here and check http://support.euro.dell.com/support...n&s=gen&~ck=bt

That entire screen is grayed out, it won't let me click on anything but the tabs at the top or the "ok" and "cancel" buttons at the bottom..

Look at this on the Dell forum, http://www.dellcommunity.com/support...thread.id=1716
it appears the Win 98 driver works, but there are link to the XP driver.

Check this out
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Start > OK Reboot.

Nope, it's enabled and set to automatic so that's not the problem...

This is the driver, it's for Win 98 but should work http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOU...ver-2046.shtml
Installing Drivers
Create a folder for what you are downloading
Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder
Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here
That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)
Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation
If no Setup file
1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.
I would go with the installation for no setup exe and point Windows to the driver
Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
