Nevermind. I got it.... I knew that as soon as I posted the question, I qould figure it out... Which was by accident, really... And I almost had a heartattack when my computer decided to reboot itself after I installed something and then I heard sound from it for the first time in a couple of days.

if your radio jacks are near your mouse and keyboard socket you need the ADI 198x audio driver

if they are lower down thee tower then you need one of the 2 soundcard drivers that are shown.

Hope this helps

No it's not hopeless, look over the tower for a label that givers the make and model of your comp, there will be a serial number, anything that is shown on the tower post.

Hope this helps

No sound with BIOSTAR P4VMAM ver 2.3

I try to download Audio driver for mainboard BIOSTAR P4VMAM ver 2.3 (it says the audio device is C-Media CMI9761A 6-Channel AC97 CODEC) from Biostar (Biostar USA and Biostar Taiwan) but all the file fail (the Graphics card is ok). After setup, the device in Device Manager is OK (no yellow or red sign) but no sound at all. I see that in CMOS it show the audio integrated is VIA 3058 AC97 so i try the driver for AC 97 but it is no use. Any one can help? TNks so much.

Pls mail me: bmhoang@gmail.com

Have a look at this first

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Properties/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

Then go back to Biostar and update the Chipset the Via 4 in 1 driver http://www.biostar.com.tw/support/dr...A-M%20v2.2&os=

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Hope this helps

After setup, the device in Device Manager is OK (no yellow or red sign) but no sound at all. I see that in CMOS it show the audio integrated is VIA 3058 AC97 so i try the driver for AC 97 but it is no use. Any one can help? TNks so much.

Pls mail me: bmhoang@gmail.com

Check this out
Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Properties/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

if radio jacks are at top of tower you have onboard sound go here to Biostar http://www.biostar.com.tw/support/dr...A-M%20v2.2&os=

update the Chipset driver and RESTART your comp
then reinstall the audio driver again

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Hope this helps

Need sound drivers please

Hi everyone, looks like this is the place to get answers on sound problems, so I'm hoping you can help me.

A friend has an HP A1520A XP Media Centre PC. There was no discs provided so when the HDD needed formatting, I installed Windows XP Professional for him. That went perfectly, except now he has no audio drivers, as well as other things. I'm wondering whether someone could give me an idea on where to find the sound (and other) drivers to download so we can get everything back again.

Below is the relevant portion of the Belarc Auditor we ran on the computer:

Operating System
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)

Processor
3.07 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Drives Memory Modules
137.43 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
132.71 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

Generic USB MS Reader USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 4
Generic USB SD Reader USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 1
Generic USB SM Reader USB Device [Hard drive] -- drive 3
WDC WD1600JS-60NCB1 [Hard drive] (160.04 GB) -- drive 0

System Model HP Pavilion 061 EY920AA-ABG a1520a 0qm0114RE101ASTE200
System Serial Number: AUD62807HP AP670
Enclosure Type: Desktop

Main Circuit Board
Board: Hewleet-Packard Asterope2 1.0
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 3.16 06/22/2006

Memory Modules
448 Megabytes Installed Memory

Slot 'DIMM0' has 512 MB (serial number SerNum0)
Slot 'DIMM1' is Empty

Thanks in advance for all of your help and advice.
