No Audio Device

I've had this happen to me before. However, the problem always went away after a couple reboots, but not this time. Go back to Asus - Audio - WinXP - 2005/01/12 v5.12.01.0008.51.61

There are 3 parts to download, Part 1 of 3, Part 2 of 3, part 3 of 3

Look at this on how to install

Then what I do is create a folder for what you are downloading.

Example: Audio
then downloads the zipped audio file to that folder.

Then download and install winzip.
Go to the folder and right click and click winzip extract to here.

That will make automatically make a folder and unzip the files to it.

Make a note of location of the folder

Then just go into the folder and click on the setup file and follow the instructions displayed for installations.

Then go to the folder and double click on the CMI.part1.exe and follow instructions to install

When I tried to install that driver, I got a "Driver installation failed. Please check High Definition Audio Device and Reboot System" message. Are there any other drivers or options I could try?

Go back to Asus http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us

under Others get the Intel Chipset / install / then RESTART your comp.

then install audio again.

DON'T FORGET THE RESTORE POINT JUST IN CASE

I installed the Intel Chipset, but I get the same error messages.

What make and model is your comp, I'll need to get the motherboard manual from Asus, and they are a pain to download. Look over the comp, any label to give a clue to the make, they do change things to make it difficult.

Hmmm... it is a custom made computer. ASUS P5GD2-X motherboard with an Intel 915P Express chipset, Intel P4 531 LGA775 processor. If you need any more information, please let me know. Thanks

Get the chipset from Intel, looking it's a different version, this is the 915P http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21

Don't forget the RESTORE POINT

After looking at the 915P download page, it doesn't seem like any of those can help me. Is there a specific driver that I'm not seeing, or is there anything else that I could try?

Ok, lets check

Audio enabled in the BIOS, drivers from Asus downloaded, C-media shows in Device Manager. I think it's the Asus drivers that are a problem, checked Asus manual C-Media CMI9880L is your audio, now go here for the driver

this site is safe, it's a Winzip file, now what I do is create a Folder to download the file to name it CMI9880L audio , then I create another Folder and name it CMI9880L unzipped.

When unzipping the file Winzip will choose it's own location, select a different location and useing the tree list navigate to the Folder you created for the unzipped files.

Then I go to Device Manager and what is yellow flagged I point to the Folder I unzipped the files to.

Sony give a good instruction see below

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers" or click on yellow flagged device
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

I found a Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio. Location: PCI bus 0, device 27, function 0. Driver Date: 05/03/2004. Also, when I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the C-Media High Definition Audio Device it mentions the Microsoft UAA before I update the drivers again. Hope this info helps

As I thought you need this hotfix first, go here to HP, it works on all models with High Definition audio with Win XP OS http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...32444&dlc=e n

im havin the same problem 'No Audio Device'

i have a dell dimension 4700, new to these forums etc, last few days i turn my computer on and the windows little tune plays when it starts up but then when i run other sounds on it e.g WMP i get nothing except errors on WMP

ive tried system restore a didnt seem to have any effect

help please = D

Can you check Device Manager anythong yellow flagged

right click My Computer/Properties/Hardware tab/Device Manager
