I bought a Compaq Presario V6000 laptop with an already installed Windows Vista software. Everything was working fine until i had a virus problem. i reinstalled a Windows XP Professional 2002. Service Pack 2

Unfortunately, for the past several months I have been unable to hear any sounds. Checking ''Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices'' under the Control Panel indicates that there is ''No Audio Device.'' Yet, when I check the hardware tab it states that the ''C-Media AC 97 Audio Device'' is working properly.

Checking other hardware reveals that all other devices (Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Devicess, and Media Control Devices) are also working properly. i have tried everything but it doenst seem to work.

The model you have appears to be the Presario V6430en, and this has Conexant High Definition audio, but with XP you need the M$ Universal Audio Architecture installing first. Your model does not give XP drivers but this V6000 has the same drivers

wondering if you can help me out. I'm having the same problem as everyone else NO AUDIO DEVICE on computer with an Intel D875PBZ Motherboard

I had installed an digidesign MBOX on my computer and it showed NO AUDIO DEVICE. So I went ahead and reinstalled my M Audio Delta 1010lt sound card back again.

For some reason it's not recognizing it anymore. It says NO AUDIO DEVICE and of course under the default i get "MODEM O Line Record"

So anyones did a lot of research and tried all the steps:

1. I went to manage > services > windows audio> and made sure that it was ON and it was so then

2. So went to the Intel website downloaded the latest drivers for the chipset and went to the M-AUDIO drivers downloaded the latest drivers for my soundcard and still nothing. I even flashed the BIOS with the upgrade from intel.

3. I also tried this other suggestion to replace audiosrv.dll file on windows system 32 and that didn't work either.

4. I also tried doing the whole enumerator thing where u edit the machine.inf fille and i have no idea what i did but that didn't work either.

So i ran out of options here hoping that u can help me out here. Keep in mind I also took the battery off the motherboard to reset the BIOS or whatever that is and still didn't work. I haven't re-imaged my PC though, but from what I've seen from other forums it still doesn't make a difference. any HELP would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I have had a no audio device condition since Jan 11, when i had to do a restore.I have an HP Pavilion desktop with a 2.70 gigahertz processor and 760 mg of memory.

The main circuit board is a MSI Gamila/Giovani/Neon series 030.

The Motherboard Chipset is an Intel Brookdale-G i845GEV

I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP3, v.3311

It has a Realtek AC'97 Audio device. I have loaded the drivers for this several times to no avail. I have tried the Sound Blaster card, but that didn't work either. Same result so I restored the Realtek.

I don't have a Windows disk, just an area on my hard drive, that theoretically contains the system.

All of the devices claim: 'Device is working properly'

This machine is very fast, at least for me, and I hate to spend over $600 just because of the sound.

Can anyone help with this? I too, am getting very depressed about this.

which HP model do you have, all those boards have Realtek onboard sound, but do you have a sound card installed. Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

HI, and thanks for helping. This is the Belarc summary. I have performed the steps you described above. In the first, there is just no "Sound Playback" tab. I am stuck there. In the second, the start-up type is "automatic". Nothing to do there.

I have spent my whole life in tech support for mainframes, and this is very frustrating. I know it is not hardware, but my hands are tied.

Under system devices, for system speaker, it says "no drivers installed". But if i try and install one, it says i have the most current.

if you have a XP disc
Try a System File Check go to Run – type “sfc /scannow” (without the quotes and note space after sfc) have Win disc available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files. The program runs with no alerts and then closes.


Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a Restore point and follow instructions

I did step 1 and still no sound. I did step 2 and it was marked automatic, so i changed it to enable. Didn't work, so changed it to disable. Did all of step 7 and 8. Still no luck.

I do not have an XP disc, just an area on a D drive that is meaningless to me.
But I ran sfc and it found nothing.

Back to square 1.

Can a person buy a new motherboard? I have tried a different soundboard (SoundBlaster) with the same lousy results.

Maybe I'm gettinng too old for this stuff.
