Slow loading on Restart

Hello,

I am running XP Pro. My systems is 2.8 ghz, P4, with 2.5 gig of ram. It takes me an average of 4 minutes to restart my system. Seems to have been getting slower as of late, and I have not installed anything in almost 6 months. I have a dsl connection.

Here is a list of what I have on start-up through running msconfig. These are whats checked on:

CTDVDDet
nwiz
ccApp
CTSysVol
MotiveSB
sgtray
UpdReg
NvCpl
SBC Self Support Tool

And, in "services" (under msconfig) this is a list of what it says is running:

Application Layer Gateway - running
Windows Audio - running
Computer Browser - running
Symantec Event Manager - running
Symantec Settings Manager - running
Cryptographic Services - running
DCOM Server Process - running
DHCP Client - running
Logical Disk Manager - running
Error Reporting Service - running
Event Log - running
COM+ Event System - running
GEARSecurity - running
Help and Support - running
Server - running
Workstation - running
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper - running
Norton Anti Virus - running
Network Connections - running
Network Location Aware - running
Norton Anti Virus Firewall - running
Norton Connection Center - running
NVIDIA Display Driver - running
Plug and Play - running
IPSEC Services - running
Protected Storage - running
Remote Access Connection - running
Remote Registry - running
Remote Procedure Call - running
Security Account Manager - running
Security Accounts Manager - running
Task Scheduler - running
Secondary Logon - running
System Event Notification - running
Windows Firewall - running
Shell Hardware Detection - running
Symantec Network Drivers - running
SPBBCSvc - running
Print Spooler - running
SSDP Discovery Service - running
Windows Image Acquisition - running
Symantec Core LC - running
Telephony - running
Terminal Services - running
Themes - running
Windows Time - running
Web Client - running
Windows Management - running
WMDM PMSP Service - running
Automatic Updates - running
Wireless Zero Configuration - running
Windows User Mode Drivers - running

Is there anything here that maybe you all can see that will get me back on track to a faster start-up speed, or is this pretty normal for a system like this?

Thank you all so very much.

In Windows, 1000 programs installed and 900 uninstalled is not the same as 100 programs installed. Meaning that if you're the sort of user (and I am) that installs and uninstalls a lot of programs to try them out, your registry is probably a bit of a mess.

At some point, I'd suggest you bite the bullet and repartition and reinstall. I recently did that after having my current installation for about 2 years and the resulting speed was amazing.
