HELP!! I've lost my shared folder during windows XP re-install

I don't know if there's any hope of recovering this folder, but I had a lot of photos stored in the shared folder of my PC in windows XP.

After a few problems with the PC, I reinstalled windows XP, and now I cannot see any of the files I once had in the shared folder...

Is there any way of retrieving these files?

Just to clarify - I moved files to the shared documents folder from my 'My Documents' folder before I re-installed XP home edition, thinking that it would circumvent having to go in and change the folder permissions whilst in safe mode to gain access to the data, after I'd re-installed XP.

Well, this has really backfired and now the shared documents folder has been replaced (with another empty one) and I can't find the original. Ironically I have taken ownership of the previous folders in the effort to locate the old shared folder, but can't locate the shared folder anywhere...

Has it been deleted? Or has it moved and is just hidden (ie. had it's viewing attribute set to 'hidden' somewhere in one of the 'Documents & Settings folder', and had its access permissions set so I can't access or see it????

Any help would be much appreciated - I don't have backups (long story) for about 18 months of pics... John

The scary thing is that the available space on the drive has significantly increased, but I know that when ownership is taken, the folders size is added. I'm hoping I can find this folder in my PC!!

If you just dragged and dropped it into Shared Documents, it wasn't moved. A shortcut to it was placed in the Shared Documents folder. In that case, it's still around.

I cut and pasted ie. Ctrl-X then Ctrl-V. They didn't look like shortcuts??

Does this have the same effects as drag and drop?
