Unhappy Cannot install SB Audigy Value PCI card after disabling AC97 onboard sound chip

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Audigy SB Value PCI sound card to install in my pc. I had noticed that the AC97 onboard sound-chip had a tendency to cut-out intermittently particularly when I am playing online FPS games with sound. So I figured I'd put in a dedicated sound card to take some of the load off my pc.

I've undertaken the following actions to try and get it to work:
* Disabled the onboard sound-chip in the BIOS.
* Downloaded the latest AC97 drivers and installed them.
* Installed the Audigy drivers and software and checked that I have the latest version online.
* Removed all other PCI sound-cards which may cause a conflict such as the Pinnacle video capture card.

THE PROBLEM: Windows XP will recognise the Audigy sc as a multi-media device and start the install process to recognise the device as an Audigy SB but when it comes to install a driver on the CD-ROM (which I have to specify the directory) it then fails to install.

The creative documentation does not cover this issue.

Here are the specs of my system.

Intel Pentium 4 2.4Ghz CPU
Gigabyte GA-8IEXP motherboard (Socket 478) includes onboard AC97 and onboard 10/100 LAN
GEforce 4 Ti4200 128Mb AGP (x4) graphics card
2 x 512 Mb DDR (2100) RAM chips
Internal IDE CDRW
Internal IDE DVD RO
External USB DVD Burner
Floppy drive
160 GByte PATA IDE HD
120 Gbyte PATA IDE HD
MS Windows XP Home edition (patched up to SP2 and up-to-date)
Symantec Nortons Internet Security 2006

I have now removed the sound card and got it working again but I'm at a loss to work out how to get Windows to let me install the Audigy SB card. My next option is to replace the MB with one without onboard sound. Any suggestions are most welcome.

Hi ... Have you just try to run the software for Audigy SB disk ? Instead of having to direct where its located ?
