Computer is slow after installing 3D Studio Max 5.1

Exactly as my message states, my computer is slow. All of a sudden, my computer takes longer to boot up and there are pauses when using the start menu/browsing through files, etc. I heard that it might be the pagefile. How do I set my copmuter to clear the pagefile everythime I reboot/shutdown my computer? Does anyone have any other ideas?

Clearing the page file is more of a security thing involving editing the registry. I'm not familiar with 3d max. Does it start up with windows? If so, disable it from doing that in msconfig. Is your computer slow all the time or just when 3d max is on?

It's slow all the time. For instance, it takes Internet Explorer about 30 secs just to open.

Did you check at the website to make sure your hardware was supported? It sounds as though the software makes major changes to the system according to this.

Well, I have:
Athlon XP 1800+
Windows XP Professional
512MB PC2700 RAM
Geforce 4 Ti 4200 (128MB)

My computer should definately be able to run it smooth, even though I don't have an intel processor.
