My Computer Runs But The Monitor...

I just finished building a computer yesterday and I just finished checking to see that everything is hooked up correctly and everything is compatable. So yesterday I hooked up my monitor and turned on the computer. The fans started running and i could hear the hard drive running and the num lock key started blinking just like it was booting up but the monitor screen said "No Signal Input". I then checked that the graphics card was hooked up right and everything seemed to be ok. I tried the same process 5 times and each time it went through the same start up faze but the monitor still displayed "No Signal Input". So I grabbed the graphics card from my other computer, checked that it was compatible and put that one in. I plugged the monitor in just as before but still it did the same process. I also tried hooking the computer up to a different monitor and still got the exact same message. Any ideas?
Thnx

By the way my graphics card is a nVidia g-force 2mx (Piece of !@#$ I know) if thats helps.

Hi ... I would check the cable to see if its ok , if its ok ? Also check whether the pins weren't bent , If they are ok ? It sounds like you have 2 computers ? With the computer thats working have you try using your monitor which you are having problem with and see if it boot up with that PC ?

I used to have an old monitor that did that. I just jiggled the cable and it started. Try pushing the cable inside the back of the monitor alittle then jiggle the cable where it's connected to the computer. Could be that either side is just loose. I don't think it has anything to do with the hard drive but hey, I'm no expert. Hope this helps.

i dont have the built in speakers hooked up yet so i think that im not hearing the beeps for improper RAM. I know i have the right speed but I have a 1 gig chip in it. I dont know if it can hold that much in each slot. It is a old COMPAQ motherboard and ive been looking on the internet for hours on end trying to find the maximum RAM it can hold.

hmm...
Its prob one of the following:
- Graphic card doesnt support monitor
- Try undo the computer and put it back together again
- Adjust settings on the monitor itself

I checked all those options and none of them seem to be the source of the problem. Im really considering getting two 512s so i can see wether the size of the 1GB of ram is too big for just one slot to hold.

it could also be the monitor setting if u have a CRT monitor theres a little switch on the back of the desktop that most of the time is red and located right underneath the power cord. Make sure that the switch(idenicle to the one on the back of your desktop on the is on the back of ur monitor) has the same number.

That little switch you are talking about is the power adjustment for users that are NOT in the US. If you change that and try to power up the system you risk ruining the power supply and system board. Be very careful.

What is the model of compaq computer you are using? I can look up the specs if you can give me the model and possibly the serial number also.

ah have you check your cmos jumber they nee to be open first
and unhook all the cable from all the drives just hook the monitor cable to the video card and then see what happen, it should work,
if not check the monitor cable plug where the 15 pin are to see if they are not bent.
