XP pro/creative modem blaster conflict

Hi. I recently put windows XP Pro on my pc and it is REALLY NICE. But, my internal modem will not hook up. This is the ISA Creative modem blaster V.90 Di5660-Di5665.
I have downloaded the most recent and correct driver for it, which is Di5660. The self test shows it is operating correctly. Its sounds normal when it dials. I hear the other modem talking and then it's like it doesn't let me though. I ck'd the IRQ's and no conflicts. I've tried calling other modems, no dice.
Here's the clincher, I can itstall my old PCI US Robotics and all works fine. So, has anyone else had this problem? I'm stuck. Seems that its the driver. Oh yeah, the Creative modem worked just fine when I was using W98se. WTF? Is something with XP not allowing this hardware driven modem work?

Forget drivers for a moment as the one you DL'd may not be WHOL certified. Go to system, hardware, device manager and delete the modem. Then let windows try to reinstall it with it's default drivers. XP should handle IRQ issues automaticakky, Also test modem prior in Control Panel Modems, and hit old 2nd tab and run test.

Lastly, if none of this works, 1st go to Windows Driver Catalog, select Microsoft ( Crative DOES NOT give MSOFT drivers for catalog, and then hit modems. Se if it there. Then if you have too Call creatve.

did most all of this

thx for the hit. I did try all of this. it was just recommended to ck MS's url page of the modems that xp supports (digitally assigned)
mine isn't there. it was recommened to me to chunk this isa modem and move on. not worth the headache.

I did uninstall modem and there were NO drivers from XP. tells me that this is definetly an uphill battle. so, what type of internal modem would you recommend? i need the speed (but not the price of dsl)

Shit. I didn't realize it was ISA. Do you have a PCI SLOT? NOTE BEFORE YOU GIVE UP, on your MOBO, the ISA and the PCI slot next to it frequently can be used by only one device. Make sure nothing is occuping the PCI slot. If so move it.

Then get a PCI modem if it doesn't fix it.

As to modems I would try for a decent V9.2 ( allows you to get calls while online ( but check 1st of your isp have a V9.2 connection.

FYI. If you are using a seperate telephone line for your modem, if you get DSL, you can get rid of the 2nd line. While getting rid of your current ISP, you may break even at $49.95/month. I saved $5.00 a month by switching to DSL.

nothing in the extra slot

nope, nothing in that extra slot. either the isa modem is in, or the pci modem is in. yeah, just concerned that the modem i get will be supported my XP. digitally signed driver. let me know if you have any specifically in mind. i can get earthnet for $50 a month and $24 for the 1st 3 months. haven't decided yet. at my work, i can surf at dsl speeds. need it for online homework. may get by for a regular connection. don't care if the phone line is tied up.
again, if you have an internal modem in mind, give me a heads up. thx, dm

Not a modem expert. Only aware of V9.2 standard. I would go to either PCMAG or PC World or Tom's Hardware for reviews. Tom's is probably more neutrtal, Windows Mag 2nd, PC Mag 3rd.

can't recommend, but i will warn. DO NOT get a modem based upon pctel chip. notoriously bad modems. one guy will say that it was the best he's ever seen, but the next guy can never get online to read the other guy's review! i personally use one, and have had good luck, but it is only luck. pc tel manufactures chips, not whole modems, so read labels very carefully as many modem manufacturers use the pc tel chips. good luck.
