Computer Wont Turn Off

I got my new drive and OS working now but I cant get the computer to turn off. I know it sounds funny but when I click "Turn Off" it shows the shutting down windows screen and turns off the CD drive and floppy drives but the CPU wont turn off. I looked into the BIOS and POWER MANAGEMENT but cant find anything that would make it not turn off. Any fixes?

Thats not it because its a brand new drive. When I first installed XP I reformatted the drive.

Don't know if this will help, try a System File Check go to Run / tpye "sfc /scannow" ( without the quotes and note space after sfc ) have Win CD available in case sfc needs to replace or repair files. Also take a look at this http://www.theeldergeek.com/shutdown_issues_in_xp.htm it may throw some light on the problem.

Hope this helps

I am having some major problems with my pc as well folks need some help.
Ok last night when i booted up my computer windows would boot up, then right when it got done it would say going into standby mode and i could not get out and would have to boot down my pc by pressing the off button. i kept turning my pc on and it would do the same thing about 6 times in a row. Later on i tried it again and then all of a sudden it booted up fine. When i was in windows though, i noticed my pc was running alot slower, so i ran an ad-aware scan and it found 5o things so i deleted them. next i ran a virus scan with mcafee and it found nothing. i went to go shut down my pc before i went to bed, and now it does the same the the other two guys are complaining about, and windows and my monitor and everything shuts down but my pc stays on. it still does the same thing and my computer will not shut down or reboot unless i press the button on my pc. My computer is still running slow, and when i play games now there are some textures missing on many items. i have had the computer for almost a year now and it has worked fine until the other day.. Anyone know what could be happening? please help me. I have windows xp professional sp2 and

I had the same problem where the monitor shuts down but the pc doesn't- Here's how you fix it.

Right click my computer - Properties- Hardware- Device Manager, Click View at the top and click show hidden devices, Double click NT Amp/Legacy support it should have a red cross on it , Enable it and your pc should now shut down properly
