Unhappy Power Supply Problem

I recently shorted my power supply so i have been looking for a new one. The main cable that plugs into the mobo to give it power is one big log with twelve holes in the bottom. I was told the usual was a 10 slot. My mobo is a COMPAQ presario piece of sh@+ so i dont know if there is any power supply that could fit except for one made my COMPAQ. I tried to put a power supply cord with only ten slots on it in the mobo but it didnt fit. I was just wondering what kind of power supply i should look for that has a power cord with 12 slots. If i look at the bottom of the power cord plug this is what it kindof looks like.

Do you still have the power supply that did not fit your system ???? if so, look at the MOBO connector's end....Usually, it come the way you have described it (with 12 connector) but the last 2 connectors could be removed.... (you can slide the last two apart from the rest, slide it up).....

If you don't have the power supply then you could find your correct spare part on this site:

You said you shorted the power supply but you never said if it works or not ?? What did you short out ? What model of COMPAQ presario is it ? The link I have send you may not be the cheapest place to buy a power supply.....usually the local computer store have it for cheaper (around $30).

Don't know if I could help with blown power supply over the net

Cheers

i tried the PS on a different comp and it just wont work so im guessin that is what it is. Unless there are to problems . We will see though. My friend is giving me a like new OCZ 540W PS and he is suppose to bring it to me tomorow. If he does bring it i will try it out and if my computer runs then I was correct and that is the problem. I am removing my old PS right now. No i do not know what kind of Comaq my mobo is.
