Printer causing pc to freeze

Hello all
I recently purchased a new printer a epson Photo R310
I installed it and everything was fine.
Over the last month i have been trying to get rid of some spyware.
Finally got rid off it all i think.
But went to print something the other day, but when i turned on the printer the PC just froze.
I thought it may be something to do with all the spyware programs i have been trying, so i uninstalled the printer and the drivers went to epson and downloaded the uninstaller and ran it, reinstalled the the printer but have the same problem.

If the printer is turned off everything works fine untill i push the printers power button then the PC just freezes.
If the printer is turned on when i boot the PC it won't even start just comes to a black screen and doesn't go any further

I am using a usb connection and have tried unplugging all other usb devices have tried the printer on a laptop and it worked fine so it's not a malfuntion of the printer.
Any help or advice much appreaciated

Could it it be a power supply problem

or
