As all the others who posted here, I have the same problem. I recently re-installed Windows XP SP1 from Windows XP SP2 and updated it to SP2. Without these drives I can not change my screen resolution either.
The drivers:
Multimedia Audio Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
have the yellow question/ exclamation mark in the "Add New Hardware Wizard".
My PC specs are:
OS:
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
Main Circuit Board b:
Board: Seanix MS-6769
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 03/31/2003
Please help

She doesn't have the CD for the drivers but the computer works just fine.
The computer is a Packard Bell iMedia M8171ADRW running Windows XP Professional (build 2600).
I used the Everest program to obtain some of the PC specs and this is what I got. (only posted what I thought was relevant).
Computer:
Computer Type ACPI Uniprocessor PC
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Motherboard:
CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 1700 MHz (17 x 100)
Motherboard Name Gigabyte GA-8SIML v2 (3 PCI, 1 AGP, 1 CNR, 2 DIMM, Audio, Video, LAN)
Motherboard Chipset SiS 650
BIOS Type AMI (03/14/02)
Display:
Video Adapter SiS 315 Integrated
3D Accelerator SiS 315 Integrated
I then went to the SiS website and downloaded the driver. http://www.sis.com/download/Windows XP > GPU Graphics Drivers > SiS315 series GPU.
I didn't get the chance to go over to friend's house and I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Don't want to wreck the computer. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks a lot for the help.

So Bookworm, I'm going to need you to pull whatever magic you've been pulling for me as well. I've been trying to run a game that insists it cannot find DirectX. I believe that it has something to do with my video controller, as on my device manager it shows that infamous yellow exclamation point.
I have Windows XP Professional, Service Pack Two
It is a Dell Inspiron laptop model 9300, and has an Intel Pentium M processor 1.60GHz.
Is that the information you need, or what else can I tell you that will help me to help myself?

these are the drivers from Dell http://support.euro.dell.com/support...NSPIRON%209300
but it can have one of two video drivers, Get Everest, copy and paste the Computer / Summary section
Open Everest - expand Computer - select Summary - select Report - Quick Report - HTML . The report opens, using mouse hold the left button and starting at all above Debug-PCI - highlight all the text - when highlighted right click mouse - select Copy
Then open post – right click mouse – select Paste and the report will insert.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml
it should show which video you have

This thread might just save my sanity. 8 hours into troubleshooting and I'm no closer to a solution than I was this morning.
I'll post my stats after my prologue.
Got a new harddrive earlier and did a whole new install.
Windows is completely fresh on a new HD, no spyware or viruses present.
eVGA Geforce 7800 GTX video card is not being identified by windows.
I have no onboard display devices, the Vid card is the only thing with a DVI port.
Driver download would be Forceware 169.xx (21 primarily)
Whenever I load this driver, the Video Controller is shown as working.
However, during the reboot process to solidify the drive, I'm stuck in endless loop until I safemode boot and remove the driver.
It may be that my card has fried at some point between the old harddrive and the new one (I've owned this card straight from factory for its life duration), but I'm attempting to troubleshoot regardless.
As far as I'm aware, my chipset drivers are up to date as I still actually own the motherboard driver disk.
Below are my specs and a screenshot of manager.
Note to the right of manager that I've left a small portion of the erroneous pixels I'm trying to fix. (Which encompasses my entire screen.)
Any help would be appreciated. I'll continue to work on this another hour and another full day after work tomorrow. I'll post any discoveries or fixes as to not waste anyones time.

Install the Chipset drivers, these are the latest from Nvidia
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_win2k_6.86.html
the installation tips, are to remove the nforce drivers first ( add/remove in control panel) and to turn off any Antivirus software , then install video drivers again.
Set a System Restore Point before removing and installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

No Go, the same things happen.
After installing the card drivers and the reboot, I can get as far as the windows loading screen before it stalls out.
I'm not sure if the drivers are even fixing the problem due to the opening motherboard splash page and the initial diagnostic boot up have lettering/graphical errors.
Would this be a sign the card is shot or are there multiple solutions to this specific problem.

these are the drivers for the board http://www.foxconnchannel.com/suppor...D=en-us0000004
Motherboard
Socket 775
865G7MF-SH
Search
first install the Chipset - then restart your comp
the VGA driver will only work if you plug your monitor into the I/O plate - see this example- click image to focus
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG
if you cannot download, try another comp and put on disc, then load that way
Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Hi guys,
I'm a newbi. I saw this post above and couldn't believe its almost identical to the problem I'm currently having. Unfortunately, I don't think it generated any responses.
I have a Dell Dimension 4600 desktop pc. I have formatted it and loaded Windows 2000. It now only operates on a 16 bit colour output. I checked my device manager and it doesn't have "Display Adapter" listed. Instead, it has a series of yellow "?" next to
Ethernet Controller
PCI
PCI
Multimedia audio controller
VGA compatible ...
and a few others. I'm guessing I need to update or install drivers for these devices but when i use the options to search for the drivers, it comes up with nothing.
I need to know what video/audio graphics card I have so i can search for an update. All the device manager tells me is I have something called VGASave. I'm assuming this is a default tho...
Sigh.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same problem as everyone else, missing VGA driver, happened when I had to reformat my PC.
Here are the specs:
Motherboard:
CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 2166 MHz (13 x 167) 3000+
