The report is showing that on-board sound and a sound card are installed, confusing as OS will not know which to use. Check this
on-board sound - audio plugs near keyboard + mouse sockets on the I/O plate
sound card - radio jacks in a PCI slot lower down the tower
Which audio plugs are you useing, if more than 1 set, try the other set.
Cheers

Cheers but I'm still slightly confused
Are you saying that I should go to the back of the computer and rearrange the RCA plugs that I am using for my stereo (which is my sound output device and I only have one set of RCA's plugged in) as they may be plugged into the PC sound when I need them plugged into the sound card plugs?
This is very strange coz the comp was working fine with the current set-up of plugs until I did a format and now I have this missing driver.
Also I fail to see how this will solve the missing Video Controller (VGA Compatible) driver in device manager?

Sorry about that, I get confused as well, deal with so many sound problems.
This Asus board does not have intergrated video, it's a graphic card, so will need to know what graphic card you have. The reports not showing it,have you any idea what it is
cheers

I have a similar problem with my video controller [vga compatible] thing. It prompts me to download the required software for video controller [vga compatbile], but I cannot find any. I am a bit desperate.
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Manufacturer 7i6GV
System Model 775i65GV
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2999 Mhz
Processor x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel ~2999 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. P1.60, 27/01/2005
SMBIOS Version 2.3
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
though i know the manufacturer of the system, it seems more tricky to get the right driver. my pc is crashing on regular bases and it's getting worse and worse. please....

That Intel board does not have on-board graphics, you must have a graphic card installed, what make and model is your comp

Check this first
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.
This is the link to MSI board drivers http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=411&kind=1
these are zip files
you can also get from Realtek http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
these are exe, files easier to install
download (Executable file) save to desktop, double click to install
SETA SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE
Hope this helps

This board does not have Intergrated Graphics, so Video is supplied by a graphic card. As problems installing graphic card drivers, go here to Asus and update the Chipset, then install Ati driver again.
http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us
Under Others > Win2K > Intel software installation utility . install then RESTART comp
