No Audio Device
Hi folks
new to the site. impressed with some knowledge on here!
My problem is this:
I have installed the audio drivers from the disc I got with my PC, and when I go into "Sounds and Audio Devices" I get the "No Audio Device" message, and all sections are greyed out. I have nVidia nForce, so I uninstalled and reinstalled. this never worked. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Heres my report from Belarc:

that never worked :-(
I rekon its an XP problem. is there anyway of installing the audio device/driver or whatever it is off the Windows XP disc without having to completely re-install XP altogether? its not a hardware problem, cause I have Geexbox (programme that plays DVDs/CD without having to start Windows etc) and it works fine.

try a System File Check, go to Run / type sfc /scannow " without quotes and note space after sfc ) have your Win cd available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files.
Hope this helps

I had this problem!
The answer in my case was to 'Start' right click 'My Computer' select 'Properties' select 'Hardware' select 'Device Manager' scroll down to the 'sound video and game controllers' open it up if necessary and look at the list where you should find the NVIDIA(R) n/Force ... etc entries. Right click on each and select 'enable' (For some reason the default state left these disabled!)
I hope in your case it's as simple as that too.

audio problems
your onboard should automatically be installed but if you have a sound card, go to the divice manager and disable the onboard or do it in the Bios.
Next.. that PC should have came with a CD of drivers, install them first but leave out the onboard audio drivers.
also your sound card should have came with a cd for drivers so install those 1st. then look for updated drivers from the maker of that sound card.
if you for some reason can't get the sound card to work, just re-enable the onboard sound and do a windows update.
i know this is not step by step but maybe this will help.

"No Audio device" problem on WinXP
After hours of researching (in vain) over this issue on the internet, I accidentally happened to do the basic steps.
1. Remove existing driver for audio using Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs
2. Go to Control Panel ->Add New Hardware, select "Yes. I already have the ...", then select appropriate audio hardware.
3. Re-install driver... from the installation disk...
This worked! Mine was RealTek High Def Audio... Good luck!
