Soundmax - No Sound

I did pretty much the same, removing apps and software that I didn't need and accidentally removed soundmax, I have no idea what drivers I need or even the make/model of my pc. In Device Manager there's the dreaded warning sign next to Multimedia Audio Controller.

I pulled up my comp info with Belarc:

Thank you! It feels like I treated the symptom with some third-party software (errors are still showing up in the Device Manager), but frankly, I don't care! I'm just happy to hear music again.

Multimedia Audio Controller -HOW I FIXED MY PROBLEM
Hello all,

YOU WILL BE GLAD TO READ THIS AND SOLVE THAT MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER PROBLEMS WITHOUT ANY BULL!!!

I had this problem for a long time, months. What I did to solve it was go to the Dell website, clicked on products, clicked on the computer, clicked on service tag, clicked on what is this, got what they wanted to see, entered my service tag number, and it came up with my computer. I compared it to my system information to confirm. It was all correct. Then I clicked on drivers, clicked on audio and clicked on download and it come up with a exe file. I then saved the file, clicked on it in my documents and installed it. The computer has to restart which I said yes, and it did. Now as I type this, I am listening to music streamed from my local radio station 98.7 the peak in Phoenix. I looked for months on how to solve this audio problem like you are. MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER This was a pain to solve. But now that I solved it .... I just had to pass it on to the rest of you with the same problem I had. Let me know if this works for you. I would like to know, maybe I can assist if you are having problems in doing this. But do the manufacture web site, enter your service tag number to get to your actual computer, and download the audio driver , save it to my documents, click on it (it will be an exe file) and install it. This will solve your sound / audio problem. It did for me.

Similar problem (no sound)...What should I do?

I've spent a few hours on trying to find out what needs to be installed but nothing is working. I recently reinstalled my OS (windows XP) but I think that the disc was messed up and not all the files were installed correctly. I now have a exclamation mark besides Multimedia Audio Controller and my sound does not work. When I look at the properties this is what it says: PCI bus 0, device 31, function 5. The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28).
