Orphan XP no "destruction manual"

Inherited a leftover computer from a garage sale---somebody gave up trying to make a 686 work with XP and it is now a control computer for a digital radio I'm getting.

The XP replaced ME. (aieeee!) and runs on my 800 mhz AThlon but the help files arent HELPing me get my applications that depend on the internet to work to become outbound.

I can get on the internet (LAN) and my Outlook express (GAG!) works.

My SPAM-KILLER-MAIL-PREFETCHER and CALYPSO and my Anti-virus cant get out and cant auto-update

I've TRIED (as administrator) to find a way to tell XP these applications are "friends" my OWN firewall knows it, but XP's leaky firewall doesnt

OH! My USB printer isnt working either even tho usb stuff appears to be un-yellowed on the applications mangler

HELP

YES!

I said that!

I repeat, how can I tell WINDOWS XP's firewall they're trusted applications...

I been goin' round and round trying to
FIND the GD XP FIREWALL and give it some rules...

Been in network connection magagement and been told "do this" and there is no "this"

This is NOT a user friendly nor intuitive OS I swear Bill gates' crew is using strong "medication" or smoking something

to find the ICF for your connection, open start menu>click "connect to">right click connection you use. go to properties, and hit advanced tab. then uncheck the box, and find yourself a good free firewall, or don't use one.
here is a page that has lots of good/free ones.
as far as the built in ICF is concerned, it is easier and faster to download a different firewall and configure it than to go through all the bull of adding generic services that won't cover what you try to let have access. get zonealarm or something.

Firewalls

Indeed that was the first thing I did, having seen in the posts that XP's firewall is poor. It is disengaged, heck! Even Outpost Firewall is disengaged.

A friend said to go to somewhere in the registry and look for someplace called "permissions"

No Ap. can get out except Microsnot applications...I get server not found, or sometimes TCP/IP error, or Winsock error. NO dialup is used, strictly LAN to cable-modem

Thanks everybody for your participation and patience with this XP-dullard
