problem running .exe

any .exe I save to my hardrive. I get "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item." when I try to run them to install the program/patch. Yes, I am the computer adminstrator.

Did you recently install windows ? I did well I actually reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows and am now having mucho problemo.

I would suspect a virus. What virus protection are you using?

If you have any unexplained, weird behaviour it's always a good idea to scan for virus problems first before you do anything else. Any well written virus will disable any programs or abilities that have the potential to find and kill it, such as denying Internet access for updates or downloads or stopping services.

Do some reading on rootkits. I sound like a drone or a broken record saying that so much, but it's becoming a real problem.

Eliminate that possibility first then move on to OS fixes.
